A delegation led by Shinoda Toshio, deputy chief representative of Marubeni Corporation in China, met up with Hu Hong, vice mayor of Guangzhou and member of the standing committee of the CPC Guangzhou municipal committee, on Aug 14.

During the meeting, Toshio outlined Marubeni's current business conditions in Japan and China as well as in other countries and regions.

Toshio expressed a hope to learn more about Guangzhou's economic and social development, as the city is one of the key cities in China and a core city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and also to find more future cooperation opportunities between the two parties.

Hu noted that Guangzhou has seen an accelerated pace in social and economic recovery - despite shocks from the COVID-19 pandemic - as the growth of the regional GDP of Guangzhou turned from negative to positive in the second quarter of this year.

Hu added that Guangzhou and Japan have carried out frequent past exchanges in trade and economy and he hoped that Marubeni can grasp any opportunities that arise to lay out more investment in the city.
