Guangdong had confirmed 26 new cases as of 12:00, February 6th, pushing the total number of infected patients to 970. 167 suspected cases were reported and 3560 people noted to have been in close contact with patients still under medical observation.
Since the appearance of the novel coronavirus in Guangdong, the province has taken a series of measures for epidemic prevention and control. According to the latest data, there are 4,755 beds across 30 provincial designated hospitals, 1,085 beds across 16 municipal designated hospitals, and 2,255 beds in back-up hospitals, for a total of 8,095 beds.
The province has furthermore set up a medical treatment work group with Dr. Zhong Nanshan (a renowned Chinese respiratory expert) as advisor and over 200 experts in the fields of respiratory medicine, infectious diseases, infection prevention and control.
Most experts had experience in fighting against the SARS, Ebola and MERS, which has helped assemble the strongest team to fight against the novel coronavirus.
Guangdong has sent more than 400 outstanding personnel in the fields of medical care and epidemic prevention to assist Wuhan in addition to a variety of advanced equipment including the extra-safe biological laboratory (P3 lab).
