Hong Kong residents will be able to use electronic mobile payments to take public transportation in Guangzhou, announced Yang Cheng Tong, the electronic payment system for Guangzhou's transportation, at its third developer conference held in Guangzhou on Dec 28.
Technical communication has been carried out by Yang Cheng Tong and Alipay Hong Kong. Guangzhou will take the lead on the Chinese mainland in allowing Hong Kong residents to take public transportation in Guangzhou by launching the relevant service on Alipay Hong Kong.
The Yang Cheng Tong app is also expected to generate standard quick response (QR) codes that can be used in Hong Kong to allow Guangzhou residents to carry out cross-region payment.
Yang Cheng Tong launched cross-regional products in bus cards with Hong Kong and Macao in 2012 and 2013 respectively, promoting interconnection in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
