The 2019 Convention of Exchange of Overseas Talents and 21th Guangzhou Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology opened on Dec 18 in Guangzhou.

Focusing on seven areas spanning the new generation of information technology, artificial intelligence (AI), biological medicine, new energy, new materials, advanced manufacturing, as well as marine economy, the convention was expected to promote talents matchmaking and projects landing. 

Li Hai, deputy director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education, said that the convention is a high-end communication and cooperation platform for high-caliber talents from both home and abroad.

Yang Guanghua, member of the European Academy of Arts, Sciences, and Humanities, expressed his hope that overseas talents can have a brighter and broader career future with the help of the convention.

A total of more than 1,000 overseas talents attended the event on the first day of the convention, while 121 domestic government delegations, as well as 71 universities, scientific research institutes, and companies were showcased in the exhibition, bringing over 10,000 job opportunities from 1,350 projects.

"This is our first time to participate in the convention and we hope to have more exchanges of ideas," said Zhao Qiang, CTO of Guangzhou Point Technology Co Ltd, "as a newly-started company, we hope to attract more talents."

This year's event has also set up a platform for talents to showcase their projects, as well as promote the implementation and transformation of projects through measures like road shows and matchmaking fairs.
