The 2019 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Intellectual Property Trade Expo took place in Guangzhou from Nov 12 to 14.

The event was co-organized by the Guangdong Intellectual Property Office, the Guangzhou Municipal people's government, the Hong Kong Intellectual Property Department, and the Economic Bureau of Macao.

"This year's event has attracted more than 300 exhibitors, setting a new high. A special exhibition area for intellectual properties with high values has been set up, covering various areas spanning clean energy, artificial intelligence, and high-end equipment manufacturing," said a person in charge from the organizing committee of the expo.

Mai Jiaomeng, director of the Guangdong Intellectual Property Office, said that it was the first time that the event was jointly held by intellectual property departments from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, which has been recognized as a practical action in deepening the cooperation in intellectual property in the area.

David FL Wong, director of the Hong Kong Intellectual Property Department, said that Hong Kong has been devoting continuous efforts to developing innovative technologies and promoting intellectual property trade.

Wong added that he hopes Hong Kong can carry out more cooperation and communication with Guangdong and Macao to provide solid support for the construction of the Greater Bay Area.

By the end of September, Guangdong province has owned a total of 287,100 valid invention patents, as well as 170,300 published Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications, showcasing strong innovation capability and increasing intellectual property quality.
