The 2019 Guangzhou International Light Festival will light up Guangzhou starting from Nov 18, with a total of 10 venues in the city.
The light festival is one of the three biggest in the world, along with Lyon, France and Sydney, Australia. First held in 2011, the event has been held eight times, attracting more than 60 million visitors from home and abroad.
Hosted by the Guangzhou municipal government, the festival has contributed greatly to the prosperity of the city's nighttime economy and in cross-border cultural communication.
A total of 42 sets of lighting works will be displayed during this year's festival, showcasing elements of traditional Chinese culture along with distinctive local historic features.
Apart from the main venue at Huacheng Square and Haixinsha, nine branch venues will be set up in districts including Yuexiu, Liwan, Huangpu, Conghua, Zengcheng, and Nansha, allowing visitors to feel the festival charm at every corner of Guangzhou and alleviating traffic pressure near the main venue.
Three bridges, namely Haiyin Bridge, Liede Bridge, and Haizhu Bridge, crossing the Pearl River, as well as the corridors in Zhujiang New Town will also be lit up.
To carry out proper management of the visitor flow, Haixinsha area and the venue in Huadu district require reservations, but reservations are free. Tickets are required when entering the venue at Baiyun Mountain.
