eguangzhou.gov.cn | Updated:2019-01-24

Over 600 students from Guangzhou Pui Ching Middle School were given special training on cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Jan 22.

The training session was provided by experts from the Guangzhou Blue Sky Rescue Association. Students were taught how to perform CPR and use first-aid equipment in emergency situations.

According to insiders, all first grade high school students in Guangzhou are required to take the first-aid course, and Guangzhou is the only city to promote CPR skills among high school students.

"There are only 10 million people in China who know CPR, less than 1 percent of the whole population, while in the United States the number is 33 percent and in France it is 40 percent", said a high-ranking employee at Guangzhou's education bureau.

More than 9,000 high school students in Guangzhou have already received the training, and all first grade high school students in Guangzhou will be trained in the near future, he added.
