Governor of Guangdong province Ma Xingrui recently held talks with Leung Chun-ying, the chief executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, mainly exchanging ideas on the planning and construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, according to a report in Guangzhou Daily on April 19.
Ma pointed out that the bay area was a world-class city cluster and an international hub that the central government had created, and Guangdong will continue to develop the area.
He said he hoped to cooperate closely with Hong Kong on infrastructure construction, technological innovation, participation in construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and good ecological system creation when building this zone.
Leung said Hong Kong highly valued the development of the area, and will partner with Guangdong to pursue the globalization and diversification of bay area's economic structure.
